You, of course, want to use high-quality CBD oil, but you don’t know how to separate the premium products from the mediocre ones. There are hundreds of different CBD companies out there and, at first glance, they all seem to be offering pretty much the same product. Upon closer inspection, though, CBD products like CBD oil vary greatly in terms of quality. The ingredients, price, and type of CBD are all factors to be taken into account, so it’s important to educate yourself on CBD before you make your final purchasing decision.
Whether you plan to use CBD oil in conjunction with other CBD products, such as CBD herbal smokes, or will be using CBD oil on its own, there are some things to take into consideration when looking for high-quality CBD oil.
In this post, we’ll outline nine of the primary things to look for when finding high-quality CBD oil. You’ll learn what to look for and understand why Healing Sacrament CBD oil outshines the rest.
9 Things to Look for When Finding High-Quality CBD Oil
1. The ingredients
When looking for high-quality CBD oil online, the first thing you want to check out is the ingredients list. This list of the substances found within the CBD oil you’re considering won’t tell you everything about the CBD product, but it’s a good starting point.
For high-quality CBD oil, all you truly need is the CBD extract and a carrier oil. Preservatives are not necessary and should not be listed in the ingredients. Any additional ingredients should provide specific benefits, such as essential oils for fragrance. If you see a long list of ingredients, it’s time to consider a different CBD oil.
Furthermore, carrier oils vary in terms of effectiveness and safety. In Healing Sacrament Clearly CBD Oil, for example, we use MCT oil (coconut oil) because it has its own list of health benefits and is the most effective for digestion.
Some CBD oils on the market contain carrier oils such as propylene glycol, which is a very common ingredient in vape juice that may be unsafe for oral consumption. Avoid any CBD oils that use anything other than MCT oil or hemp seed oil as the carriers.
2. Lab results
In today’s market, it’s pretty hard to find a high-quality CBD oil that doesn’t come with lab results. If you do manage to come across a CBD oil without any evidence of lab-testing, consider purchasing a different product. Those without lab results are very likely to be low-quality, ineffective, and even potentially unsafe.
Do keep in mind, however, that lab tests can vary in accuracy and reliability. Some CBD brands will try to offer CBD oil lab test results from their own in-house labs. But, you want to look for testing done by independent, third-party laboratories.
The information on the CBD lab reports also varies. The most thorough lab tests will provide the concentration of each cannabinoid present in the tested CBD oil. Others will also test for the presence of contaminants such as mycotoxins and heavy metals. Still others will provide information on the terpenes present in the CBD oil. Terpenes affect you and provide their own benefit, much like cannabinoids do. Knowing which terpenes are present in the CBD oil you’re considering will tell you a lot about how the product will affect you.
3. Dosage information
If you’re unsure of what the dosage of a CBD oil you’re considering is, find a different product. Knowing how much CBD your product contains is key to calculating the dosages that are most effective for you and ensuring you get your money’s worth out of the product. Any brand that makes this information hard to find or does not list it on the bottle is likely not worth purchasing from.
By that same token, avoid brands that state their CBD oil contains any amount of “total hemp oil.” Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are not the same thing, and hemp seed oil will not provide the benefits and effects you’re looking for. The majority of full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD oils contain anywhere from 25% – 50% CBD. Just listing the amount of hemp oil won’t tell you how much CBD is actually in the CBD oil.
What’s worse is the fact the listing of “total hemp oil” could mean there is no CBD present at all. To get around the anti-hemp issues put in place by major eCommerce platforms, some manufacturers are advertising their hemp seed oil as CBD oil. Be on the lookout for this mislabeling when finding high-quality CBD oil.
Even the most high-quality CBD oil can be completely ruined by an unpleasant taste. Some people dislike the taste of hemp and, if you’re one of those people, try a CBD oil with some flavoring.
If you do choose to go with a flavored CBD oil, make sure the ingredients are all safe and of high-quality. Avoid CBD oils that are stated to contain “natural and artificial flavors”, as this typically means unsafe additives. Instead, opt for flavored CBD oil that includes a list of the exact flavoring ingredients — and that are natural.
Our Original Bold Brewed CBD Oil, for example, is flavored with honey and nothing else. Our CBD oil does not contain any artificial flavoring additives.
As a general rule of thumb, high-quality CBD oil should have the same consistency as olive oil, if not a bit more thin. If the CBD oil you’re considering purchasing is thicker in consistency, it could mean there is the presence of thickeners and / or other unsafe additives.
A CBD oil should never be syrupy or gelatinous in consistency. If you can’t find information about the consistency from reviews or the manufacturer’s website, then contact the brand directly.
6. Is i either full-spectrum or whole plant?
There are several types of CBD extracts that are found in oils and tinctures: Full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate. While CBD isolate often has better purity as the product only contains that one cannabinoid and nothing else, this type of extract does not provide the entourage effect, which is something that enhances the effectiveness of CBD oil.
Broad-spectrum does not contain any THC, and the extract process can potentially decrease the quality of the CBD oil by degrading the present cannabinoids and terpenes.
Full-spectrum CBD oil, however, is considered one of the best on the market because it contains all of the cannabinoids and terpenes present in the hemp flower, while still containing less than 0.3% THC. It won’t cause a high, but it will provide the entourage effect and make the product more effective.
Whole-plant CBD is the most effective and most potent type of CBD oil, and will be your best option when looking for high-quality CBD oil. It contains all of the cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and other cannabis compounds that provide the relief you’re looking for.
7. Price per milligram
One of the best ways to ensure you’re getting your money’s worth from a high-quality CBD oil is to calculate the price per milligram. This is easy to do and will tell you a lot about the CBD oil you’re thinking of purchasing.
First, take a look at the price of the CBD oil. Then, take the total number of milligrams the CBD oil contains. Divide the price of the CBD oil by the total number of milligrams of CBD to get the exact cost of each milligram of CBD in the oil.
For example, our Original Bold Brewed CBD Oil contains 400mg of CBD for $42. This comes to $0.105 per milligram of CBD. This is about what the price should be for a high-quality CBD oil.
If you’re considering a CBD oil with a much higher than average price, you may want to try a different brand.
8. Brand’s online presence
A reputable CBD manufacturer will have a strong online presence so you can find their products and learn more about the brand. Make sure you’re buying from a reputable CBD brand by checking the social media pages for the consistent posting of quality products with positive customer engagement. Take a look at their website. Does it have an educational blog full of helpful information for the customers?
Are there reviews posted by customers? What kinds of things are the reviews saying?
Check for a strong online presence with clear customer service.
This brings us to the next point…
9. Read customer reviews
Every high-quality CBD oil should have at least a few reviews. Quality products will have a variety of unbiased reviews from all genders, ages, and demographics. CBD brands are fairly limited in what they are allowed to say about their products, but reading customer reviews will help you know for sure whether a CBD oil provides effective relief or not.
